Many sports supplements designed to build strength and improve fitness contain extracts of this plant. Traditionally, the regular use of Tribulus stabilizes the emotional state of a point-in-time emotional stress or in case of depression. This anti-stress effect is due to ß-carbolines. It is also used as a tonic, as the plant contains a range of steroidal saponins. In addition, the regular use of Tribulus reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Finally, Ayurvedic medicine requires the use of Tribulus to prevent the development of chronic prostatitis, because it contains phytosterols, which contribute to inhibit the process.
